Meishan Picnic Roast

Made for low-and-slow cooking and serious BBQ flavor.

Our Meishan Picnic Roast comes from the lower portion of the shoulder of our heritage Meishan pigs raised right here at MF Farmstead in Carrollton, Georgia.

The picnic roast is a hardworking cut packed with flavor. It contains the fat and connective tissue that make pork shoulder so incredible when given plenty of time to cook. Combine that with the natural marbling and rich flavor Meishan pork is known for, and you've got a roast that's practically begging for a day on the smoker.

Season it with your favorite BBQ rub and smoke it low and slow for tender pulled pork, braise it until it falls apart, or slow-roast it for a hearty family dinner. The bone-in cut is also excellent for adding rich flavor to beans, greens, soups, and other Southern favorites.

Perfect for pulled pork, smoking, BBQ, slow roasting, braising, carnitas, tacos, and family meals.

Slow-Roasted Pork Shoulder

8 hours
Serves 4-6 people

Instructions

Season a 4-5 lb pork shoulder with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Roast at 275°F for 6-8 hours until internal temperature reaches 195°F. Let rest 30 minutes before shredding.
Chef's Tip: Slow cooking breaks down tough connective tissue for incredibly tender, pull-apart pork perfect for sandwiches or tacos.
